As a junior player, Charlie won 16 Indiana State Championships, including a State High School Championship, and was inducted into the Indiana Tennis Hall of Fame. He signed with Georgia Southern University and played Number 1 for the university for two years.
He then transferred to the University of Georgia where he played Number 1 in singles and doubles and was named an All-SEC (Southeastern Conference) and All-American player. As an unseeded player, he reached the quarter finals of the NCAA Singles Championships. He ended up ranked Number 8 in the United States as a college singles player and led Georgia’s team to its 16th Southeastern Conference Championship and its first top 10 ranking.
As a tennis pro, Charlie played two years on the professional tennis tour reaching a ranking of Number 1 in Georgia, Number 6 in the South, and 280 in the world.
As an instructor, he has taught thousands of junior players of all ages, including Al Parker, the Number 1 ranked junior in the US, and Sarah Foster, the three time Kentucky State High School Champion and Captain of Texas A&M’s Tennis Team.
